TravisTravis by Tracie Podger

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Arc copy provided by author in return for an honest review:

Travis is an important character in the Fallen Angel series of books by Tracie Podger. He is the best friend and childhood friend of Robert Stone.

The pair grew up on the streets, they stole what they could to survive, they lived by their wits and Robert was the brains behind the team. Both boys had horrific childhoods, Travis' family fled from Ireland when he was still nice and comfy inside his mother's stomach. Travis' father was an abusive drunk, his brothers were no better, I guess like monkey sees monkey does, they followed their father's violent footsteps. The only person Travis had at home was his sister, but even that changed one night when all hell broke loose. Travis was forced to flee and leave his family behind, better to do that than die at the hands of his brother or father!!!

Left alone in a big city he lived on the streets, and that is where he met Robert. The pair fast became friends and together they survived, till Travis got very ill, Robert attempted to steal a purse from a lady called Evelyn (something he never did before). The theft failed somewhat and he handed back the purse to a distraught Evelyn and he explained why he needed to steal her money. Enter Evelyn into the boys lives. After helping to get Travis better, Evelyn became like a mother to the boys.

Travis loved Robert like a brother, they were tied together by their history, by their need to care for each other, living on the streets was not going to be the way they lived forever Robert Stone had plans, big plans for him and Travis, and one day he would ensure those plans worked, but till then they had to do what they could to live.

The story is enthralling, you are gripped from the very first book, and each book thereafter. Travis' story is a very necessary part that has to be told, it shows how the boys became so close, it tells their fears, their highs, their lows. There is a dark side to the pair, they are secretive, dangerous, and damn sexy. Yep there is hot sex involved so for over 18s only.

I fell in love with the Fallen Angel series when I read book 1, promptly bought the others, each book is fantastic, so well written, has you gripped page by page. The boys grow into men, hot sexy men, who melt your heart with their story. You can almost feel their pain, feel like you want to grip them and hug them close and tell them everything will be alright. This is how good the books make you feel, and the book about Travis is just like that, you want to wrap him in your arms, stroke his hair and comfort him!

The Shut Eye - by Belinda Bauer

I received an arc copy of this book in exchange for a review via NetGalley

A gripping story, this had you on the edge of your seat from start to end, it revolves around missing children, so as you can imagine it is very raw but also humorous in places.  I loved the way the author made the characters so real and believable, the parents of one of the missing children, James and Anna Buck go through all kinds of hell, to the point Anna thinks she is going through some madness.

Good police work usually find some path to close the cases, but they have old ones still on their books, will this be another one to sit dormant??  will it all be tied together? could the Inspectors missing dog be linked to it?  Well, this I cannot tell you as you need to read the book to find out.

This is a really great book with hints of the paranormal via psychic Richard Latham who Anna visits in order to find her missing son.  Anna's pain is devastating her, and you can feel her pain.  All in all a terrific book.

THE UNSEEN FACE - by Joanne Rhino

I was provided an arc copy of this with a view to providing a review.

The Unseen Face, I really got engrossed in this book because of the writers fantastic way with words, it was very detailed and you had empathy with the main Character James, who mourned for years the loss of his love Emilia, who died of a brain tumour, so we are led to believe. This is a triller with a spin on it that has you reeling.

Even after 10 years and a new girlfriend James is burdened by nightmares that terrify him, his friend Richard forces him to meet with his brother who is a psychiatrist in order to help him get his life straightened out. The psychiatrist focuses on getting James to face his demons, whatever they may be, and James realises if he wants to live a normal life he must solve the puzzle which is within his nightmare.

I won't give anything else away other than to say that this was a terrific read, very intellectually written, with a flair not seen nowadays!!!

I found a couple of errors which I hope were in the delivery of the arc and not the actual book as some words were repositioned incorrectly.

Hats off to Joanne Rhino for a fantastic story.

Authors Blurb

Upon receiving a letter anonymously two weeks prior, ghosts from the past began to come back up to the surface. Nearly every night for the past couple of weeks, poor James has been experiencing a reoccurring nightmare regarding Emilia. In this nightmare, he feels that Emilia is trying to tell him something. Perhaps it is nothing, or perhaps it is about how she died. His nightmare came from the very depths of his soul, haunting him silently until he left his guard down and he experienced an ugliness he had never realized existed inside of him. Despite the ugliness and horror that plagued him, James felt as if his soul held the key to answer his reoccurring dreams and that promised to relieve him of his horror. His doctor, Doctor Jonathan assured him that his dreams were connected to his own subconscious state where successions of emotions, sensations, images and ideas occurred in his mind with him knowing it. Doctor Jonathan claimed that this phenomenon was more prevalent in his sleeping state. He also believed that every picture that James saw within his dreams was a form of unspoken contact from Emilia. It wasn't just Doctor Jonathan that agreed. Richard also agreed that James was perhaps suffering from the loss of Emilia. Even Jennifer believed that Emilia was trying to reach out to James to tell him something in his dreams. However, Jennifer went a step even further and asked James to go to Emilia's tomb and attempt to communicate with her that way. However, when James goes to meet Emilia's parents, his adventure truly begins and he begins to learn things he never thought he would. After believing for so long that Emilia died at the hands of a brain tumor, he quickly learns that is not the case. After hearing from Emilia's mother that her daughter had been killed, James feeling confused goes to the Iredell County Jail to meet Emilia's killer, Adam Jackson. This is when James realizes that Emilia was indeed murdered by the hands of a cold-blooded killer. Every memory James has of Emilia turns out to be from a pack of twisted and horrible lies and he soon realizes he was not the person he thought himself to be.

THE JACKDAW by Luke Delaney Publisher HarperCollins UK, HarperFiction/Blue Door

BOOK BLURB

The fourth novel in the DI Sean Corrigan series – authentic and terrifying crime fiction with a psychological edge, by an ex-Met detective. Perfect for fans of Mark Billingham, Peter James and Stuart MacBride.

Live or die?

DI Sean Corrigan and his Special Investigations Unit are under pressure to solve this case fast. But as The Jackdaw’s popularity grows, Corrigan realizes he’s hunting a dangerously clever and elusive adversary – one who won’t stop until his mission is complete.

MY REVIEW

I received this book from the publishers in exchange for an honest review. Well get ready for a truly amazing read, the characters are absolutely awesome, this book has it all, I was giggling in places, and trembling in others. The Jackdaw book has some very violent scenes, serial killers are often like that, this is about a serial killer, not the normal run of the mill kind of killer either, this one thinks he is teaching people a lesson, making them pay for their crimes against the public, crimes in his imagination, or maybe they are really crimes? who knows, only the public can judge if the person he is holding prisoner is guilty or innocent. The killer uses YOU VIEW, the U-Tube equivalent to air his kidnapped victims, he tells the audience of the crime he is charging the victim with, and then he gets them to vote, GUILTY or INNOCENT!!! He carries out the verdict live on You View, if they are found guilty he murders them. Truly different from most stories about serial killers, the author has done an amazing job to make his work realistic and honest. There is the typical story hungry reporter, who will do anything to get the story first. There are the higher archy breathing down the lead officer's neck to get results, and there is the lead officer, who is excellent at his work, he seems to know what the killer is about, what he is likely to do, what he won't do, this guy knows his job and then some..DI Sean Corrigan!!! I really do not want to tell you any more information relating to the story, or I would spoil it for you, but truthfully this is an amazing book, full of highs and lows, twists and turns. You feel as if you are partaking of the hunt for the killer, read this definitely as its such a terrific book

The Syrian Virgin by Zack Love (16 and over only please)

Authors Blurb
Anissa is traumatized by the most brutal conflict of the 21st Century: the Syrian Civil War. In 2012, Islamists in Homs terrorize a Syrian-Christian community and destroy everything that a young woman holds dear. Narrowly escaping death, Anissa restarts her devastated life as a college student in NY. She is bewildered and lost -- a virgin in every sense.

But despite her inexperience with men and life in the United States, Anissa is quickly drawn to two powerful individuals: Michael Kassab, the Syrian-American leader working to found the first Mideast Christian state, and Julien Morales, her Columbia University professor who runs a $20 billion hedge fund.

Complicating matters, Michael is still attached to his ex-girlfriend and Julien is the most sought after bachelor in Manhattan (and has hidden demons even his therapist can't extract). Anissa's heart and her communal ties pull her in different directions, as she seeks hope and renewal in a dark world.

WARNING: This book is about a young woman's difficult journey: her escape from Syria's Civil War, her transition to a new a country, and the relationships that she forms along the way, including her romantic interests in two very different men. The story is set against the backdrop of the Syrian Civil War and makes reference to violent acts, sometimes in detail. There is some occasional profanity and a few scenes that depict sexual intimacy. Accordingly, the recommended minimum age for readers is 16. The novel might be compared to books like "The Diary of Anne Frank" or "The Kite Runner."

MY REVIEW

At first I would say  this book was different from what I would normally read and this sums up my feelings on it:-
In the beginning it was not my cup of  tea, after a few chapters it was sure like My Glass of wine, by the end it was definitely My Bottle of Vintage Champagne,

Summary
After the trauma of having to flee her home country, a young 17-year-old Anissa is in a strange country with an Uncle she barely knows to add to her stresses she has vivid memories of what happened to her family who were murdered. After counseling she writes a diary, (a log of information to help her cope), this is the story based on her diaries. Although I am not very keen on religious or any other "war" issues, this story grips you, it takes you on the long journey from dark hateful and vengeful incidents, to how a young woman copes with what happened, how she grows via her inner self, her uncle's inputs, her education and the friends she surrounds herself with. After reading the first few chapters I got totally engrossed in the book, so therefore would recommend this book to anyone even readers like myself who are not keen on the violences raised issues of religious wars and such like, because this book is true, vivid, exceptionally well written, a story that keeps you engrossed to the end and hoping that there is a follow up story.

Possessed - Part One (The Possessed Series Book 1) by COCO CADENCE

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

We have an obnoxious boss called Leo King who is the CEO of his parents business, and we have the fiery redhead named Samana who has a temper and a mouth she likes to use frequently to yell at her boss whom she hates with a passion. Hate/love can be a similar affection, sometimes we love to hate and sometimes we hate loving someone.

Samantha is Leo King's PA, she is well paid, she would do almost anything to keep her job, and when her boss hits her with a suggestion she cannot refuse without being sacked, what choice does she have? Lose her well paid job or do what he asks and keep it!!!

Nowhere in her wildest imagination could she understand why he wanted her to do this for him, this was no ordinary thing he was asking her to do, was the man for real? did he seriously expect her to pretend to be his wife? Seems he did and she had absolutely no choice at all, either play along or be dismissed.

I loved how the author blended these two strong characters, how they bounced off each other, how they seemed to one minute be oblivious to each other the next they are in a battle of wills, compelling read, well written and a fantastic end which was a CLIFF-HANGER which means, of course, MORE TO COME yippee

PUSHED by A.F. CROWELL

I was given an Arc copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review!

Leila Matthews's is a trauma nurse, she is single and no plans to change that, the only person who means anything to her in her life was her brother who is a police officer.  One night however whilst at work her world almost crashed down on her, an on-duty police officer is brought in with a gunshot wound, OMG she realises it is her brother. Lelia goes into meltdown, you can feel her pain, you can feel her worry, lucky for her its a friend of hers who is doing the surgery and she trusts him to make sure her brother is given the best chance!!!  It is touch-and-go if he will make it, she is in shock mode!!! Then her system is put into overdrive by the appearance of a stranger, who turns out to be the best friend of her brother, his name Brody Davis.  Instantly Leila is drawn to this man, he is drop dead gorgeous.  Wow the attraction was mutual, this man never did relationships, his love em and leave em attitude was how he lived.  Seeing Leila changed that, he wanted her, he wanted to make her his, he wanted to take her where she had never been before.  He had no intention of just blowing Leila off, she was his best friend's baby sister, and she was all he ever wanted in a woman.

Brody Davis was a rich man in his own right, he was a real estate developer, his parents who died in an accident were wealthy and he inherited from them, riches, properties, cars, yes this man was loaded with cash and with looks, he was smoking hot!!!  Is Brody the jealous type? well yes after running into a friend of Leila's called Jax you can see the green eyed monster appear.  This guy Jax is a man who turned up in casualty one night, he needed stitches but being a macho guy he refused just bandage it up he had demanded.  He appears regularly throughout the story, and Brody dislikes him immensely is it just because he sees him as a threat? does he think he is stalking Leila?  Brody is a typical Alpha male, and his jealousy surfaces every now and then, will that ruin his and Leila's relationship?

Leila is attractive, slim, with ample curves, she turned men's heads easily but she never had been very interested before.   Her work, her dog, an ex-police dog, and her beloved brother, was all Leila had time for.  Could she risk getting involved with this man Brody, would he hurt her, why would he want her she was just a working class woman, all she could give him was herself, would it be enough?

I loved the whole story, it captivated me from page 1 till the end and left me wanting more and more !!!  The hot steamy love between these two main characters was exciting, funny, it melted your heart at times and made you giggle at others.  These two have a chemistry second to none, but will Brody's jealousy ruin it ? in fact Leila has a few jealous moments too.  The story was written superbly, it never got boring or dull, just flowed at a great pace with you dying to read on to see what was coming next.

Needless to say there was a cliffhanger - and I for one can't wait for more!

Do you not just love those eyes? OMG dreamy or what, piercing blue eys would melt your heart!!!

 EXCERPT:
I’m staring at Rafe’s hand. Big, strong, callused. A scar runs from his thumb to the index finger.
He’s looking at me, waiting. What does he want?
I lift my hand, place it in his. It fits on his palm, smaller, darker, thinner. He seems as entranced by the contrast as I am. His fingers slowly curl, closing around mine. His lips part, but no sound comes from his mouth, and his gaze remains fixed on our entwined hands, pale lashes hiding the gold of his eyes.
Now I’m the one caught, transfixed. His mouth looks soft, vulnerable, at odds with his strong, angular features and the broad set of his shoulders. The need to touch his face is overwhelming, and I step closer, so close I can sense his scent. Not a cologne, but the deep scent of his skin, like musk and warm metal. I can see the rise and fall of his chest underneath the black Deathmoth T-shirt he’s wearing under his open jacket, see the outline of his strong pecs.
We’re standing so close our breaths mingle, and our bodies touch in places as we shift, feathery brushes that send fire across my skin, into my belly, making me ache. He places his hands on my waist and I grip his thick, sinewy forearms. My stomach drops as if I’m standing at the edge of a precipice, on the edge of a moment that can change everything.
What’s happening? It’s as if in the hollow darkness, the barrier between us is crumbling, the wall he’s set between himself and the world is falling.
His hands tighten on my hipbones and his lashes lift, his gaze moving to my mouth. His breathing is ragged. He tugs me against him, his fingertips digging painfully into my flesh, his arms flexing with barely controlled strength.
His arousal presses into my stomach, hot and thick, caught sideways in his jeans.
My mind fills up with static. Rafe wants me. There’s the solid proof of his desire. The heated gaze I’ve felt so often on me is translated into a physical reaction, and it makes me feel so hot I might burst into flames. He’s so handsome, I can’t help myself. I want to stroke his square jaw, drag my fingertips over the golden stubble on his cheeks, kiss those damnable dimples.
I whimper, the sound coming from deep inside me, and he freezes, goes so still I’m not even sure he’s breathing.
Then he jerks back, releases me so fast I’m left reeling.
“Fuck,” he hisses. He buries his fingers in his short blond hair, pulls, his mouth now hard like the rest of him, pressed into a flat line. “This is a mistake.”
A knot is gathering in my throat, in my chest, cutting off air.
I want to be mad at him, but his hands are trembling, and his amber eyes so full of pain I forget my anger before it even forms. He’s like mist, here and suddenly gone, lost into thin air. I have to touch him, touch his bare skin, prove he’s real.
“Wait.” I lift my hand to his face, fingertips skimming over the smooth skin of his cheekbone. Warm. Satin soft.
A pang goes through my chest, an ache that feels too much like sorrow, and I’m not sure if it’s mine or his.
He jerks away, his eyes wide on his pale face. He reaches up, his hand hovering over the spot I touched. Then he turns and rushes off into the crowd.
My hand is still hovering in midair. I don’t know for how long I stand there, staring at my splayed fingers, trying to figure out what happened. Or maybe trying to find another explanation for his reaction, desperate for him to be different to any other handsome, arrogant guy. Maybe I imagined the pain in his gaze – or maybe that pain is real but doesn’t make a difference. Traumatic past or not, he’s sorry he touched me, sorry he desired me. Big surprise. Why would he desire me, of all girls? There are so many vying for his attention. Girls who have witty, sexy things to say, and who don’t go stiff like cardboard when he touches them.
The thought of him touching other girls shouldn’t hurt quite as much as it does. And this is a bad sign. Very bad sign, Megan, I tell myself and lower my hand that touched him. I feel as if my fingertips are numb, burnt by the feel of his skin.

HIDDEN - Dragonlands- by Megg Jensen

I was provided this book as an Arc copy  by Net Galley in return for an honest review:-

Fog, scary is fog, always creepy effect, well how about a fog that has trapped the villagers inhabitants for 80 years? now that is scary.   The village is now dying with mysterious disease, is it the fog? Is there a way to save this village? seems that Tresaa and Bastian think there is!!!

Bastian is in a marriage to a spiteful woman, but he loves Tresaa, they love each other and usually we find the man is the one in a story who has the main hero part, but Tresaa leaves Bastian to protect him!!! I found that intruiging, refreshing actually not the standard MALE protects WOMAN kind of thing we find in books.

Do you like dragons, I do, so finding that a dragon suddenly drops in the middle of the village from the sky really floated my boat immensely.  This book moved along nicely, there was just the right amount of creepiness and mystery for me, you can actually feel yourself getting tense, waiting for the next bit to make you jump!!!

I am keeping this author on my list so that I can follow any further releases!!!

So many things happened, however saying that if you think you could read this without jumping, cringing, flinching, you probably are very wrong.  The descriptions of the mannequins/puppets were so graphic, you could not help but to see them in your mind, these things would give the best of us nightmares!!!  The title of the book itself sure does conjure up weird ideas before you even open the book.

The author sure has a vivid wild imaginative train of thought, the repetitiveness was the only downside I would say but then again the whole point of the story was repetition, everything was changing, then changing back, and changing more, like an endless train of thought!!!  Perhaps the author chose to put in so much repetition in order to emphasise what horrors the group were having to endure!!!

FALLEN ANGEL series by TRACIE PODGER

I first got to know about The Fallen Angel series of books when I joined Tracie Podger's Street Team, the teasers were so exciting I had to just run and One Click on Amazon to purchase Book 1 in the series.  WOW oh WOW I cannot believe how soon I became hooked on the story ( page 1 lol).

So what can I say about the Fallen Angel Series, omg I can say plenty, this set of books are absolutely awesome, it starts in England with Brooke, who after a broken relationship heads to USA for a holiday to visit her gay friend.  Brooke loves it there and before long she has became  embroiled in the life of  Robert Stone a deep, dark, dangerous chunk of hunk.

The two begin a romance that you can clearly see is very deep and very meaningful, the sexual chemistry is second to none, the author captures the essence of this in her erotic scenes, which blow your mind.

I totally got absorbed in this book when i opened my kindle at 11pm at night for a quick read of a few pages, hours later i was finished as I could not put it down, it gripped me from page 1, and held my attention all night, deprived me of sleep but oh how it was worth every missing minute lol.

I quickly set off and purchased book II, book III, Robert & Evelyn, and await her new book the last part of the Fallen Angels we are told, the wonderful Travis, who was a childhood friend of Robert Stone, they have been through some fun times and some tough times together.

If i could give this series a 100 star rating I certainly would, it was the best read I have ever had (and I did read Fifty Shades of Grey) this was much better lol
