Review: The Secrets of Lizzie Borden

The Secrets of Lizzie Borden The Secrets of Lizzie Borden by Brandy Purdy
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Most ``people have heard the story of Lizzie Borden, but this is different, this is told from Lizzie's viewpoint, and it is very interesting. Lizzie tells of her early life and her sisters, being kept by her father and step mother in an almost poor kind of life. Although her father was wealthy, he denounced spending, and made the girls life a stoic lifestyle. They were not allowed to have male friends, they were basically doomed to life the life of old spinsters.

Lizzie did travel and did see the world, she ventured out into the big bad world, had adventures, had sexploits, and also committed murder, she killed her father and stepmother. It was a crime that rocked the very core of society. A daughter who hacked her father to death with an axe and his wife. A cold crime but the depth of her misery was clear to see in the story, to be forced to be ridiculed, to be viewed as a pauper when all the time knowing your wealthy would be enough to drive anyone slightly nuts, but this story will continue to be speculated over for hundreds of more years.

The author did a spectacular job in telling this version of the Borden story, I loved every page, kept me gripped and I could read it over and over again and again.

I received a copy of this via the publishers/author through Netgalley, and I am extremely grateful to be allowed the chance to read such a splendid story.

Review: Riot

Riot Riot by Jo Raven
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

When you are broken how do you fix yourself? well, Paxtyn (Pax) has her own ideas on that. She hires a male escort, his name is Riot Gallagher and he is employed by The Bad Boys Escort Agency.

Her first meeting with her escort surprises her, his name is Riot, and he is more than handsome he is every bit the bad boy image but is he? is that a facade to trick the clients? Or is he a bad boy? Jax soon realises that maybe this guy is not the one to fix her, but Riot has other ideas, he cannot get her out of his head and he is determined to see her more.

This sure has a fascinating story behind it, how this broken women finds a guy who might be the one to fix her or is there something more to it than that?

You are going to have to read this and find out because I do not want to spoil it for you, but I will say it has a terrific story and a fabulous ending, and as usual, Jo Raven throws us another fantastic book to read.

I read an advance copy of this story and this is my review in return for reading it, although I was not asked to leave one!!

Review: White Lie

White Lie White Lie by Peggy Dabney
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Vincent is part of a crime family, in fact, he is the underboss, and his cousin Leo is the boss. They love their crime family, and the thrill they get from doing what they have to do to keep the family safe.

The story starts with Vincent shooting his school friend Donnie, his lifelong friend who has disgraced the family with his lies and betrayal. You get the instant WOW factor at this point, you know you are getting into a brilliant story.

Tommy is an undercover cop and along with his partner Jace Jacobi they are part of a strategy to infiltrate the family and take them down. Do they succeed? (not telling).

Kree is a sexy female who is loved by Tommy (secretly) and Vincent the underboss has his sights set on her too, but there is a big problem in their way Vincent's usual sexual partner, Jewel, she is part of his crime family, they have been lovers, and Jewel is not about to be pushed out of Vincent's bed for anyone.

Kree is drawn to Vincent like a magnet their sexual chemistry is on high settings, both of them cannot get enough of each other, but they both know nothing good can come of the relationship, he is a bad person, but his heart belongs to her and hers to him.

Tommy is there waiting to pick up the pieces and they hope for the perfect fairytale romance, which it seems they are getting, however, the Author is not letting us away so lightly, she has thrown more shocks into the mix, so much so you will be sat on edge of your seat chewing the tips of your fingers, watching the nightmare unfold before your very eyes.

This is one heck of a story, I absolutely loved it. Gripped me from the first page and never let me go at any point all the way through. So many lies, so much deceit, plenty of sexual tensions. This definitely is a mind-blower!!!

I received a copy from the Author in exchange for an honest review.

It was in a small room in a hotel in Washington, DC that my life changed forever—again.
My son, Gerry, had hit his nose causing a river of blood to run down his chin and onto his dress shirt. Sam and I had taken him from the party to clean him up when all hell broke loose.
As we crossed the reception of the hotel, I noticed a man—one of the many security detail Robert had installed to ensure his fortieth birthday party was not disturbed. He watched me leave the ballroom and just as I entered the restroom, I heard him speak.
“Can I help you?”
I hadn’t turned to look and see if he was addressing me—I was too focused on Gerry. I had enough time to grab a fistful of hand towels before it happened.
Before an invisible force hit me like a tank and I was thrown forwards, landing heavily on my side. My ears rang, my vision was blurred and my heart raced in fear.
What had just happened?
A cloud of something grey swirled into the room. Was it dust or smoke? I wasn’t sure. My brain couldn’t compute what I saw, couldn’t comprehend what was going on. I heard screams, I heard shouts, but the ringing in my ears distorted the sound. The solid oak door to the bathroom hung from one bracket, a gap had formed but not wide enough for me to see through clearly.
The sound in my head lessened, replaced by the shrill of a fire alarm. Splatters of water hit my face. The smoke, or dust, must have triggered the sprinkler system.
I heard a moan and it was as if fingers had snapped in front of my face—my son was lying somewhere on that cold tiled floor.
“Gerry?” I called out. My voice sounded strained even to my ears.

Love, Marriage, Mayhem
Book 4 in the Tempered Steel Series
by Maggie Adams,
Genre: Romance
Release Date: November 30th

With only a small clue to the whereabouts
of the arsonist that torched his family's business, Lawrence “Lucky” Coalson
heads to Las Vegas. While posing as a bouncer, Lucky finds himself ensnared by
the lovely bartender, Claudia. But, like Lucky, she’s not what she appears to
be and what happens in Vegas follows Lucky back home with unimaginable

Brandon Coalson is as hot as his older brothers,
but he's the sensitive one that patches broken hearts and sends them on their
way. Until Anna Meeks walks into the office and into his life. Her shy demeanor
melts Brandon's heart, but she's got secrets that could get them killed. When a
family friend is grievious injured, the men vow to put an end to the sabotage
once and for all, but nothing goes according to plan, and the men must fight
Mother Nature, a murderer, and the local law enforcement to get the answers
they seek.

His face came closer and
she closed her eyes, but popped them open when he simply touched her nose with
his, rubbing it lightly. “Open those beautiful eyes, Anna. I want to see your
passion.” Anna stopped breathing as Brandon tilted her head slightly, and
touched just the tip of his tongue to her lips, licking just the corner, then
drawing back. She caught fire at the first touch of his lips on her skin.
Naturally shy, she had nevertheless had her share of kisses, but this was
entirely different from anything she had experienced before. Tender pecks on
the eyelids, the chin, a teasing bite along the throat and collarbone, Anna’s
breath hitched. Then he gave a little lick to the ‘oh so sensitive’ spot at the
curve of her neck. She gasped, as he captured the sound with his mouth, then
went in for the mouth, tongue licking her lips, demanding entrance
as he succeeded in devouring her mouth just as he had been dreaming of doing
for so long. One sweet, succulent, tongue entwined, dream of a kiss. When they
were both breathless, he tenderly pulled at her lower lip with his lips and
planted one last gentle kiss on the curve of her neck. Although it was a gentle
kiss, the underlying hunger could not be denied, and Anna didn’t want to deny
him anymore. She craved his touch like flowers crave the rain. But now was
neither the time nor the place to indulge in these fantasies. She drew back
reluctantly. “You make me forget myself,” she blushed and lowered her eyes.
“You make me hot,” Brandon whispered seductively.
