MY REVIEW of Hard Ride #1: A Novel in Three Parts (Ready to Ride) by Opal Carew

I received an arc copy of this book from the publishers via NetGalley in return for an honest review

what a splendid story, a young heroine named liv, and our hero Shock (real name Devlin).

This pair have a history, from college, but it was a short-lived romance, Liv distanced herself from Shock after a traumatic event.  Shock's family were well off and it appeared he was destined to be mega rich. However, his father and brother lost the business and the money after getting involved in embezzlement.

Years later Liv runs into Shock again, now a member of a biker gang, he is a big muscled, tattooed, tough looking guy, he looks hard as nails but do not be fooled, he actually has a soft heart.  He is a bit of a dominant person, hot as hell, and, even though, his family fortune has gone, he already has made his own fortune!!!

Liv's priority is her family, her sister is sick and needs treatment, which, of course, is expensive.  Liv decides to ask Shock to help her (but fails to tell him why), of course he is a hot blooded male and takes this opportunity to get Liv to do his bidding, he lends her the cash in return for her being with him for a month.  He is not being sadistic, he clearly has feelings for Liv, and this sets the bond between them both, for the 2nd and 3rd part of this series.

My 5 Star Review of GLYPH - The Scribe by Cyndie Shaffstall

Peru, the beginning of time it seems, this book is narrated by "The Scribe" who in essence is a woman who was trained in the art of drawing and writing the signs that would in later years be the "history books" of their people.  Created by the Gods, the Sun God, The Earth God etc, the land is protected by the Gods, but the Gods have to leave their earthly bodies and return to the heavens leaving the lands without their protection, thus allowing what we would call paganism where false gods, self-appointed gods, participate in human sacrifices, as well as animal sacrifices.  This was against the Sun God Inti's wishes, and he is displeased.

This was totally different to any book I have ever read, it took me almost a week to read when I normally read a book in a day or two at the most.  I think this was because the story was so detailed, so many characters to understand, the strange words, the strange names, everything was very detailed right down to how The Scribe created Maps, how she drew the flowers, plants, trees, giving a full written explanation of the things her civilisation had seen, done, and were planning to do.  It was like a beginning of time, kind of tale, how they created LAWS and had the equivalent of judges, how they divided the cities, the way the hierarchy was set out right down to the bottom run which was the farmers, who were to maintain the land and provided the sustenance for the people.

Very enjoyable, read, I loved some of the descriptions of the people, the beliefs they held passed down from these Gods, the trust they had in them and how they adapted to deal with living without the living version of the Gods.

Every part of the book was full of information, explanations, colorful, heartwarming, but as I said there are many unusual names to try to follow, which did make it quite a difficult story to understand, hence slow reading is required!!!

EXOTIC CARS MEET A LOVE STORY

"NOTHING IN LIFE IS A COINCIDENCE"
It was the day of a special occasion in my life, when my entire future was rewritten and set on a new course

Or was this always part of destiny that I believed you cannot run from?

My Destiny. Now Ours. Together. Exclusively.

As I watched him at the show I never planned on attending – I was certain of one thing about his velocity:

ONLY GOD is capable of catching him.

The moment we met, there was no looking back on a past life down a darkened and lonely road any longer.

Before him I had never dated anyone. Before him I lead a normal good-girl life.

With him my plus size curves and unique facial features are loved and adored beyond a passionate and lustful extent

Beside him I became queen to the messiah of an exotic cars racing universe I defied heaven for

As fate would have it, regrets collected like old friends ready to relive both our darkest moments

It’s always darkest before the dawn, but to see the sunrise at the end of the finish line, there are SEVEN words of a pledge barricading the way:

Oath
Griffin
Blood
Hypersonic
Racers
Breakneck
League

Cauterized words onto his soul that will decide if he is either a villain or a savior

The ultimate sacrifice must be made by him alone
Which will he choose? Which will he let go of? Which means more?

This is our journey
This is where our racing legacy with fast cars begin.

REVIEW of LEATHER AND LACE (Tempered Steel book 2) by MAGGIE ADAMS

WHAT DID I THINK?
I am totally stupid, is what I think, I read Leather and Lace which is actually book 2 in the Tempered Steel series!!! I should have started off with Whistlin' Dixie (book 1), but saying that I did find that it was still enjoyable from start to finish but please read book 1 and get the whole feel of the series. Now saying that I messed up and did not read book 1 first, I can honestly say it did not detract from the enjoyment of the book.  (Off to read book 1 now lol)

REVIEW *****
This story has it all, over protective father, high-school sweethearts, romance, heartache, danger, mystery, but it does not end there as it has much more.

Angel loves Sam, and he loves her, but Angel's father is having none of it and makes sure Sam is out of his daughter's life. They say true love never runs smooth and this can be said in this story.

Sam is upset with Angel, he really believes Angel was on her father's side and not his, but will the stubborn Sam ever give Angel the time of day, well long enough to explain she wasn't??

Truly exciting, gripping read, with some amazing characters, these are almost brought to life as you read, you will be smiling one minute and tearful the next.

There are many twists and turns, this book can be read as a stand alone which is how I read it, but I think that reading book one Whistlin Dixie would have been sensible, so that I could have been already up-to-date with the Coalson brothers.

My Review of Blood Moon Over Africa by Paul Zunckel (5 star)

Black Magic, witchdoctors, things of old, or, are they? Are they still being practiced in Africa?

What would happen if your husband inherited a property secluded in the African bush
? Well most of us would grab the chance with both hands of a new life. This is exactly what the main characters Adele and her husband David did. They arrive at the new homestead and realize it has much work needs doing to be considered somewhat liveable

Newly married the pair embark on this new chapter in their life, looking forward to renovating the property and moving in, but their happiness is soon short-lived when they start noticing weird things happening. They are in the African Bush, animals should be in abundance, birds should be tweeting and flying overhead, but in fact around their property there is none, which is definitely a warning flag.

Before long they soon discover why, they actually do have an animal living on their property, or is it an animal? Walks like a human  leaving  footprints like a human, but its shadowy figure looks more like a hyena. This confirms to them that something evil is there, something neither man nor beast, just evil.

The pair enlist help in tracking down more information on the beast, they need to know what it is and how to deal with it, because this is their home and Adele is damned sure nothing is pushing them out of it.

You will be taken on a journey, an adventure, a scary trip that will have you rooted to the spot, whispering to yourself, WATCH OUT, perhaps yelling at the kindle like me!!! This is a fabulously well-written story, it tells the story of the old ways,  witch doctors, medicine men, of tribal beliefs, the things that scare the tribes, the information is endless, you cannot help but be compelled to read on, to follow the journey to the end, keep praying for a miracle because these pair along with their friends and helpers are going to need more than help, they are going to need every ounce of their wits, their courage, their skills, and prayers to protect them.!!!

Figs, Vines and Roses (Kindle Edition) by Joy M. Lilley

This story is an exciting period story, set in the late 1800s about a well-off family, there is Agnes & Ralph, two rather stoic parents, their son Clarence, and their daughter Isabella (Issy). Most of this is Issy relating the story, which I found heart-warming and one part in particular when she was remembering specific games they played as children, made me smile as I too had played the same games as a child.

It is a kind of coming-of-age tale, exceedingly well written, full of historical information with splendid attention to detail throughout the book.

Colorful characters, and the insight into the differences between well-off children and poor children, how the parents did not want their children mixing with each other. The children sneaking to meet each other to enjoy playing and having fun together. Rich kids tended to be snooty and aloof, so Izzy and her brother preferred to play with the poor kids, who were much more fun, more mischievous too.

The author has written an excellent book, with such finesse and attention to detail, which is very impressive.

In keeping with those times, Agnes and Ralph are very religious, and after the birth of both children, Agnes feels that her duty is done, and sex is off the menu. This, of course, leads to clandestine meetings between Ralph and one of his employees named Rose. Here we get a bit of romance thrown in but it does appear in other parts when the children's grandmother recounts her youth and her romantic liaisons.

Issy is a very kind, caring and giving person, she likes to help others, it's just her nature, where her brother Clarence is more inclined to look out for himself, he likes to be number 1.

The story has a lot of twists, turns, and surprises. It grips you from the start, those who love historical things will love this, but those who do not will not be put off the story as it is expertly placed within the story so much so that everything is believable and realistic. You almost feel transported back in time.

My name is Anne Berkeley. I'm a full-time cubicle dweller, wife and mother of two beautiful children. I do all things creative. Photoshop, photography, scrapbooking, decorating, barbering, and I would like to think...writing.

I dream up most of my material during my seventy-five-minute commute to work. Some of it comes to fruition and other times it's edited out again. But I hope that what made the cut is worthy of note.

I write paranormal romance novels for adults. No, not erotica. Though there are some steamy scenes. I'm working on several novels at the present. Yes, more than one. I jump back and forth as my mood dictates. It's the way I work best. Tempestuous, my first novel, released in 2012, Torrid in 2013 and Feral, the first of a new series in 2013. I'm working to complete Turbulent (Third and final novel for the Tempestuous series), a second novel for the Feral series, and two standalone novels.
