Review: Skin

Skin Skin by Dale Mayer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow, this is a rollercoaster of a journey, a group of broken people who attend a week-long seminar to deal with their issues. Being trapped in a seminar dealing with your issues is not everyone's idea of fun, it is an all inclusive course, no going home at the end of the day, they are there to deal with their issues be it from traumatic injuries to accidents or even rapes.

Tania and Kane and Robin, are three of the people there to resolve their problems, Kane was a massive guy, Stoney faced, angry looking, all muscles and very good looking.

Jenna was the therapist she had dealt with some serious issues herself and was now helping others to face their demons head on and come out the other side free of their fears.

Tania was terrified of men, she had suffered something terrible and her fear of men was real, but she wanted help, she needed to overcome her fears if she ever wanted to have a normal life, you know the one, husband and 2 kids, white picket fence. Robin, she had a horrific accident which left her disfigured and she hid away, locked at home because she feared what others would think of her, but she had a friend she had Tania, they both attended the course and they were supportive for each other.

When Tania sees Kane, her heart flipped, her breath felt like it was being squeezed out of her, but this was not fear she felt, it was lust, she was terrified from him, she wanted to run from him, but she was also drawn to him like a magnet.

Jenna put everyone into pairs to work on a project, and Tania was paired with Kane, both thought that this was a stupid idea but they had to trust that this therapist new best. Robin was put with someone else which Jenna was not happy with, she felt she would heal better if she was with her friend Robin.

Accepting the therapist had decided they all started on their projects, but what was their projects, it seems that nobody was given any idea as to what that was just hints as to what they may need. Jenna was told she should take her camera, and before long both Jenna and Kane realise their project was him, that Jenna was to photograph him. Now begins their journey, to repair themselves, to heal, but can they? can they get past their anxiety and fears about their problems, can Jenna work with Kane, does Kane want to be anywhere near her? to be photographed?

I loved this story, it made you feel, it made you feel their pain, their anguish, it made you smile when moments were lighthearted, it made you chuckle at some remarks made, it made you cry also. I was so engrossed reading this that I missed all my favourite TV programmes - that never happens!
